The Weija Gbawey constituency and party members of the People’s National Convention (PNC) have called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to immediate annual their National Elections as they do not accept the outcome.

In a petition to the Commission, they said, this is to enable them express their grievances and concerns over the improper manner and nature in which the Electoral Commission of Ghana conducted the internal national executives’ elections for the People’s National Convention (PNC) on the 7th September, 2024, across some regional capitals.

They held a great conviction that the said election was flawed and biased. It is their strongest believe that the Electoral Commission could have done better than what they did on the 7th September, 2024.

“The PNC has never witnessed such an abysmal conduct of our internal elections since 1992. It was our first time we witnessed an Electoral Commission giving counter and unproductive directives to a political party in respect of the conduct of their internal elections.”

“Dear Madam Commissioner, the PNC was scheduled to hold its national delegates conference on the 7th September, 2024, across all regional capitals in the country. However, and unfortunately, the party was hit with an injunction summons on 4th September, 2024. We were served with the writ of summons as a Party thereby making it almost impossible for us to proceed with the scheduled congress on 7th September, 2024”, the petition added.

They also added that, “dear Madam, it would surprise you to note that, some of the regions in which the elections continued, recorded as low as 40 or 52 voter participation, representing as the entire regional voter turnout at the close of polls. Can this be regarded as a free and fair election? Another shocking revelation of the process was that, the electoral commission allowed agents of one aspirant to transport the ballot papers to the airport unescorted, to be dispatched to the various regions for purposes of conducting the elections. Only God knows if the ballots were not taken out or tempted with for the purposes of rigging the elections. To all intent and purposes, the 7th September, 2024, purported elections were fraudulent and lopsided and can never be regarded as free and fair elections”.

The PNC Parliamentary Candidate for Weija Gbawey Constituency reading the statement said, “Dear Madam, this conduct by the EC to break its own rules and proceeded to conduct and supervise the elections for our Party on the face of an injunction summons, has now put our party in a contemptuous situation. It has also created further divisions in our Party. Madam Chair, the supposed outcome of the said elections cannot be said to be free and fair, and cannot be regarded as constitutional and democratic. We therefore reject the outcome of the elections as held on 7th September, 2024, and would do everything possible to ensure that the right thing is done by the EC under the laws of Ghana”.

He said, they would continue to protest and petition the EC at its various offices across the country until a properly supervised national delegates conference is conducted for the PNC by the EC.

Mr Moon Jnr added that, EC must do everything possible to salvage its image as the country go into the 7th December, 2024 election. We would continue to persist and protest until the EC yields to our constitutional demands.

He said, they therefore call on the EC to with immediate effect, annul the purported 7th September, 2024, National Delegates Congress of the People’s National Convention (PNC). We are calling for an immediate rerun and a fresh election for the PNC.
