In a speech marking the occasion, the Minister expressed profound gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence reposed in her to serve as his representative in the region.

The Minister outlined his commitment to implementing the President’s vision for a stable, united, inclusive, and prosperous Ghana, as outlined in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto.

To achieve this, the Minister identified four key areas of focus: Strengthening Local Governance, Sanitation and Waste Management, Security and Public Safety, and Economic Development.

Under Strengthening Local Governance, the Minister plans to deepen decentralization, enhance participatory governance, and empower Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to improve revenue generation and sustainable development.

The Minister also emphasized the need for a comprehensive Sanitation and Waste Policy, encouraging waste segregation, supporting garbage bags and bins, and strengthening sanitation and waste management departments in MMDAs.

To ensure Security and Public Safety, the Minister will work closely with security agencies, intensify streetlight provision and replacement, enforce footbridge usage, and promote a competitive approach to environmental sanitation.

Finally, under Economic Development, the Minister will focus on local economic development, facilitate trade fairs, and support female entrepreneurs through the Women’s Bank.

The Minister called on citizens, civil society organizations, the private sector, and the media to collaborate in achieving excellence in governance and service delivery. With a commitment to efficiency, effectiveness, and innovative ways of doing things, the Minister is confident that together, they will make Greater Accra a cleaner, safer, and more prosperous region for all.
