https://www.mymctvonline.com/missing-children-ghana-hosts-end-of-year-party-for-reunited-children-with-special-needs/ https://www.mymctvonline.com/missing-children-ghana-hosts-end-of-year-party-for-reunited-children-with-special-needs/#respond Wed, 31 Dec 2025 11:48:04 +0000 https://www.mymctvonline.com/?p=4601 Missing Children Ghana has marked the festive season with an end-of-year celebration honouring families of reunited children with special needs, recognising their resilience, commitment, and care despite the challenges they face.

The organisation celebrated five families whose children, three girls and two boys, were successfully reunited with them after going missing between 2021 and 2024. The children’s special needs contributed significantly to their disappearance, as they were unable to find their way home or provide accurate information to aid quick reunification. Through sustained efforts by Missing Children Ghana, all five children were eventually located and reunited with their families.

In recognition of the long-term care responsibilities placed on the families, Missing Children Ghana had earlier provided financial support to some primary caregivers to help strengthen their small businesses and improve their capacity to care for their children. As part of the Christmas festivities, the caregivers, mostly mothers, were invited to the organisation’s office to share updates on the children’s wellbeing and receive food items and cash support to celebrate the season.

The celebration, held at the Missing Children Ghana Office, was supported by the Amazing Women of God and the Apau Asante Outreach Savers International. Volunteers of Missing Children Ghana and members of the Amazing Women of God group were also present. The gathering served as a moment of thanksgiving for successful reunifications, child protection interventions, and an opportunity to reflect on post-reunification challenges and solutions.

During a sharing session, the mothers reflected on life before their children went missing, the reunification process, and the realities of caregiving afterwards. Many highlighted persistent stigmatization from society, the emotional and financial strain of caring for children with special needs alongside other children, and limited access to resources. Despite these challenges, the caregivers expressed gratitude for the progress they have made.

They also outlined specific needs that could enhance their caregiving capacity, including monthly financial support for medications, assistance with rent, a freezer to expand a water and sobolo business, and capital to grow small-scale fruit businesses.

Addressing the families, Founder of Missing Children Ghana, Regina Asamoah, commended the mothers for their dedication and perseverance. She encouraged them to continue caring for their children with love and patience and to seek support whenever they feel overwhelmed rather than transferring frustration onto the children.

She reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting families beyond reunification through its Strengthening Families Beyond Reunification Project, aimed at ensuring long-term stability and child protection.

Representatives from the Amazing Women of God urged the families not to lose hope, encouraging them to see their children as purposeful and uniquely gifted, with God-given talents that would manifest in due time.

Speaking on behalf of the volunteers, Benedicta Molga encouraged caregivers to ignore negative societal comments and instead prioritise their children’s wellbeing, citing public figures who have successfully raised children with special needs despite criticism.

The event concluded with the presentation of hampers and cash donations to the families in appreciation of their unwavering care throughout the year.

Earlier in the festive season, Missing Children Ghana, in partnership with Nneka Youth Foundation and GJ Foods and More, also spread Christmas cheer to children at the Save Them Young Orphanage in Ashaiman and neighbouring communities. Over 200 packs of food were served, alongside donations of rice, drinks, toiletries, detergents, and other essential cooking items to support the home.

All partners called for increased support for various orphanages to enable them to adequately care for the children under their responsibility. The Save Them Young Orphanage currently houses over 60 children, including children with special needs.

https://www.mymctvonline.com/transitions-to-release-lumbas-body-to-family-head-for-saturday-funeral-if-high-court-caveat/ https://www.mymctvonline.com/transitions-to-release-lumbas-body-to-family-head-for-saturday-funeral-if-high-court-caveat/#respond Fri, 12 Dec 2025 17:52:41 +0000 https://www.mymctvonline.com/?p=4596 The High Court in Accra has added a caveat that, because of the costs incurred as of now, if by 2 pm today the applicants don’t pay GH¢2 million, the funeral home, Transitions, would release the body of Daddy Lumba, and the funeral scheduled for Saturday, December 13, 2025, will come off as planned.

This came up, after the court called the lawyers of both sides and issued the caveat.

Earlier, the High Court had restrained the head of the family, Kwame Owusu, from going ahead to organise the final funeral rites of the music icon on Saturday, December 13, 2025.

The court ordered him to convene a family meeting, involving all sides, within three days to plan the funeral.

The order from the court followed an application for an injunction by some of the maternal family members of Daddy Lumba, including his sister Ernestina Brempomaa, and his uncle, Yaw Opoku.

The funeral home, Transitions, where the body is being preserved, was also restrained from releasing the body to the head of the family for the planned Saturday event.

But after the court called the lawyers back, a caveat was issued that the applicants should pay GH¢2 million by 2 pm today. This is to help cover the costs incurred by the family head as of now towards the preparation of the Saturday, December 13, 2025 event.

Graphic Online’s Justice Agbenorsi reports from the court that Daddy Lumba’s maternal family members are the applicants in the persons of Obaapanin Afia Adomah, Robert and Georgina Gyamfi, Ernestina Brempomaa Fosuh, and Nana Afia Kobi.

The defendants are — Kofi Owusu (family head), Cal Bank (managers of the DL Foundation), and Transitions (funeral home)

The applicants, for whom the injunction ruling went in their favour, are to pay the GH¢2 million to the family head, Kofi Owusu, because of the costs he has incurred in organising the family as of now.

His lawyers were asking for GH¢5 million, but the court ordered GH¢2 million.

The mode of payment was not specified, so it can be either cash or cheque.

The family head (Abusuapanyin), Kwame Owusu, has been ordered by the court to convene a family meeting, involving all sides, within three days to plan the funeral.

The order from the court followed an application for an injunction from some of the maternal family members of Daddy Lumba, including his sister Ernestina Brempomaa and his uncle, Yaw Opoku.

The funeral home, where the body is being preserved, has also been restrained from releasing the body to the head of the family for the planned Saturday event.

Per the documents filed in court, the applicants argued that their family head Kwame Owusu had sidelined them in the preparation of the funeral.

The court held that the head of the family holds the right to oversee proceedings but must involve the immediate family.

The court’s decision stems from concerns raised in the affidavit by the applicants, indicating that the immediate family of the late musician had been sidelined in the planning process.

While acknowledging that funerals can involve substantial financial commitments, the court stressed that every matter must be considered on its own merit, especially where family rights and rites are concerned.

In its ruling, the court affirmed that although the head of the family traditionally holds the authority to oversee funeral arrangements, that authority must be exercised in consultation with the deceased’s immediate family.

The court therefore directed the head of family to convene a meeting within three days involving all relevant parties and stakeholders.

The purpose of the meeting, according to the court, is to jointly plan and agree on a new date for the funeral, ensuring that no party is excluded from the decision-making process.

The court further ordered that no steps should be taken to retrieve the body from the mortuary until the final determination of the case, bringing all ongoing preparations to a temporary halt.

Following the court order, checks by Graphic Online indicate that preparations at the Heroes Park at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi for Saturday’s event have been halted.

Workmen were putting the final touches on the grounds in preparation for the Saturday event, after tents and green carpets were fixed on Thursday.

Musical instruments had arrived at the venue and were being arranged but when news of the court order trickled in, the workmen stopped the preparation.

https://www.mymctvonline.com/government-ready-to-partner-zoomlion-to-drive-sustainable-development/ https://www.mymctvonline.com/government-ready-to-partner-zoomlion-to-drive-sustainable-development/#respond Fri, 12 Dec 2025 17:28:26 +0000 https://www.mymctvonline.com/?p=4590 The government has expressed its readiness to deepen collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Limited to make environmental cleanliness, climate resilience, innovation, and sustainable job creation an everyday reality for Ghanaians.

The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Ahmed, made this pronnouncement on Friday, December 12, as the Guest of Honour at the climax of the Jospong Annual Thanksgiving Service 2025, at its head office at Adjirigarnor, Accra.

“The government is ready to deepen its partnership with Zoomlion Ghana Limited and by extension the Jospong Group’s subsidiaries to drive a Ghana where cleanliness, resilience and innovation and job creation become everyday reality and not a distant aspiration,” Mr. Ibrahim declared.

He noted that this partnership was strategic, as Zoomlion’s work was essential to key national goals: improving local services, creating sustainable jobs for young people, safeguarding environmental health, strengthening decentralisation, and ensuring sustainable development.

He affirmed the government’s commitment to “deepen this partnership with the Jospong Group and Zoomlion,” highlighting the critical role of the private sector in national development, particularly in environmental sanitation and waste management.

He placed Zoomlion and Jospong Group’s growth in a historic context, saying, “The first wave was Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s liberation efforts across the continent.

“The second wave was when Ghanaian Black Stars conquered African football, adding that the third wave is Zoomlion’s expansion across Africa, has become another historic symbol of Ghana’s global influence,” he noted.

A Partnership with Proven Results

Mr. Ibrahim highlighted that the existing public-private partnership was a model of success, noting that during an official sanitation benchmarking trip to South Korea, “only two African countries impressed the Koreans: Ghana and Morocco.”

He attributed this recognition to the “36 completed composting, recycling, and waste treatment plants, the largest sanitation infrastructure in West Africa,” developed through the collaboration under Zoomlion’s scope.

He revealed that Zoomlion’s waste management infrastructure was pivotal in the United Nations adjudging Ghana as the “Sanitation and Waste Management Hub for West Africa” in 2025.

The screening process will take place at 8 sub-centres across 5 locations, including El-Wak Stadium, Nicholson Park, Air Force Base, TRADOC, and Eastern Naval Command.

Qualified applicants will receive an SMS with their reporting dates, batches, and designated centres. They can also check the recruitment portal for updates. Those who don’t receive a text message by November 20 can call 0256405104 or WhatsApp 0256405154 for assistance.

The Ghana Armed Forces has put measures in place to ensure a smooth process, including a new recruitment team led by Commodore FA Nyarko, Colonel F Kusi-Darko, and Colonel GB Eduah. The public is advised that families and friends should not accompany potential recruits to the screening centres to avoid congestion.

The move follows a stampede incident, which is currently being investigated by a Board of Inquiry. The Ghana Armed Forces apologizes for the incident and assures the public that those found responsible will be held accountable.

NADMO Boss Urges Content Creators, Musicians to Take Events to Rural Communities Ahead of Christmas https://www.mymctvonline.com/nadmo-boss-urges-content-creators-musicians-to-take-events-to-rural-communities-ahead-of-christmas/ https://www.mymctvonline.com/nadmo-boss-urges-content-creators-musicians-to-take-events-to-rural-communities-ahead-of-christmas/#respond Sun, 16 Nov 2025 20:19:58 +0000 https://www.mymctvonline.com/?p=4546 The Director–General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Major Dr. Joseph Kunyo, has called on Ghanaian content creators and musicians to prioritise organising programmes and entertainment events in rural and remote communities, especially ahead of the Christmas festivities.

According to him, many residents in rural areas often have limited recreational activities and fewer job opportunities, making them more vulnerable to idleness and, in some cases, manipulation into criminal or violent activities. He noted that regular social engagements such as concerts, community events, and creative arts outreach can help keep young people positively occupied.

“When people are engaged with productive activities, they have less time to plan conflict or involve themselves in negative behaviour. Many rural communities lack adequate jobs, so it becomes easy for some residents to be hired to engage in violence,” Dr. Kunyo stressed.

Major Dr. Kunyo appealed to celebrated Ghanaian musicians including Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Black Sherif, KiDi, and Kuami Eugene to consider hosting more of their upcoming holiday events outside the major cities. He explained that such outreach would not only create excitement but also help residents in rural and remote areas feel included in national social life.

“Let us make people living outside regional capitals feel involved and a part of society. When top artistes and content creators take entertainment to rural communities, it reduces crime, promotes peace, and brings joy and hope to young people,” he said.

He added that the creative arts industry holds immense potential for job creation and local economic development, especially in underserved communities where vendors, transport operators, artisans, and small businesses can benefit significantly from the influx of visitors during major events.

He also said this will also go a long way to reduce the pressure in the capital cities which most often creates traffic congestion, and sometimes disaster due to the numbers that grace some of these events.

Director–General made the call when executives and members of the Defence Press Corps paid a courtesy call on him to strengthen the relationship between NADMO and the media.

Speaking on behalf of the Corps, the Dean, Joseph Armstrong Gold-Alorgbey, who also serves as the Defence Correspondent for Media General, expressed appreciation for NADMO’s efforts in 2025. He highlighted the organisation’s early dredging and desilting of major drains in Accra, which contributed to a significant reduction in flood incidents this year.

He also commended NADMO for its swift response during recent disaster situations, noting that the organisation’s readiness has saved lives and protected several communities.

Despite the commendations, the Dean raised concerns about poor media collaboration in some Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs). According to him, the limited flow of information makes it difficult for the media to keep the public adequately informed during disasters.

“We need consistent and continuous media engagement on disaster preparedness to ensure the public receives timely and accurate information,” he urged.

The visit ended with the Defence Press Corps presenting a citation of honour to Major Dr. Joseph Kunyo, congratulating him on his appointment and acknowledging his achievements as NADMO’s Director–General who in return presented a plaque to the press corps.

Ghana, Saudi Arabia Sign 2026 Hajj Agreement to Enhance Pilgrimage Preparation https://www.mymctvonline.com/ghana-saudi-arabia-sign-2026-hajj-agreement-to-enhance-pilgrimage-preparation/ https://www.mymctvonline.com/ghana-saudi-arabia-sign-2026-hajj-agreement-to-enhance-pilgrimage-preparation/#respond Wed, 12 Nov 2025 20:27:15 +0000 https://www.mymctvonline.com/?p=4542 The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to officially commence preparations for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.

The agreement, signed in Jeddah on Sunday, November 9, 2025, formally confirmed Ghana’s participation in the 2026 Hajj season.

According to a statement from the PAOG Communications Directorate, the Chairman of PAOG, Alhaji Abdul-Rauf Tanko Ibrahim, signed the MoU on behalf of the Government of Ghana. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth, well-organized, and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage for Ghanaian Muslims.

During the signing ceremony, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah reviewed Ghana’s previous Hajj operations, identified challenges, and discussed strategies to enhance coordination and improve the welfare of pilgrims.

The discussions, according to the statement, centered on maintaining the sanctity of the pilgrimage while strengthening service delivery to Ghanaian pilgrims.

The MoU established the operational framework for Ghana’s participation in the 2026 Hajj, covering key areas such as pilgrim slot allocation, service contracts, accommodation and transport arrangements, camp bookings, visa processing, welfare, and health standards.

It further noted that both parties agreed on specific timelines for operational readiness and logistical arrangements, which will be managed through the Musuk Masar digital platform to promote transparency and efficiency.

The agreement underscores the importance of timely coordination, health compliance, and service quality in ensuring a successful Hajj season for Ghanaian pilgrims.

Following the signing, Alhaji Abdul-Rauf Tanko Ibrahim expressed appreciation to the Saudi authorities for their continued cooperation and support. He extended warm greetings to Ghanaian Muslims and encouraged prospective pilgrims to make early payments of the Hajj fare of GHS 60,000 to facilitate smooth planning and coordination.

The signing of this agreement marks another significant milestone in Ghana’s Hajj operations and strengthens the long-standing partnership between Ghana and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the management of Islamic pilgrimages.

Six dead in El-Wak Stadium stampede during military recruitment https://www.mymctvonline.com/six-dead-in-el-wak-stadium-stampede-during-military-recruitment/ https://www.mymctvonline.com/six-dead-in-el-wak-stadium-stampede-during-military-recruitment/#respond Wed, 12 Nov 2025 20:23:26 +0000 https://www.mymctvonline.com/?p=4538 At least six people have been confirmed dead following a stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, during an ongoing military recruitment exercise.

Reports indicate that thousands of young Ghanaians had thronged the stadium in a desperate bid to secure enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

The large crowd, coupled with intense jostling at the entry points, led to chaos that resulted in multiple injuries and fatalities according to reports.

Our sources indicate that the bodies of the six deceased have been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital morgue, while several others are receiving emergency treatment at the facility’s casualty ward.

Security personnel have since cordoned off the area, with the military blocking all major roads leading to El-Wak Stadium to maintain order and facilitate rescue operations.

The tragic incident occurred amid an extended recruitment period announced by the Ghana Armed Forces. The exercise, which was initially scheduled to close on October 31, 2025, had been extended by one week following technical challenges on the recruitment portal.

In a statement signed by Colonel Evelyn Ntiamoah Asamoah, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the military explained that the extension was necessary to accommodate applicants who had experienced difficulties during the initial phase.

Investigations are expected to be launched to determine the circumstances leading to the incident and to prevent similar tragedies in future recruitment exercises.

Beatrice Laari Shares Problems Of Girls With Minister Of Youth Development & Empowerment https://www.mymctvonline.com/beatrice-laari-shares-problems-of-girls-with-minister-of-youth-development-empowerment/ https://www.mymctvonline.com/beatrice-laari-shares-problems-of-girls-with-minister-of-youth-development-empowerment/#respond Fri, 17 Oct 2025 15:13:40 +0000 https://www.mymctvonline.com/?p=4530 As part of the International Day of the Girl celebration, Beatrice Laari Dammigu, a 15-year-old Form 3 student of Walewale Girls’ Model Junior High School, visited the Minister of Youth Development and Employment, Hon. George Opare Addo, at his office.

Beatrice today took over the seat of the Minister and served as the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment for the Day

Beatrice, who is also the Speaker of the West Mamprusi Municipality Children’s Parliament, led a team from Plan International Ghana to share the plight of girls in her school and community.

During the meeting, Beatrice highlighted some of the challenges faced by girls in her community, including teenage pregnancy, child abuse, child marriage, and drug abuse among young people.

She appealed to the minister to intensify education and sensitization efforts to curb these societal problems.

The Minister detailed the ministry’s efforts in fighting drug abuse among young people, citing a recent survey that revealed 42% of university students in the country are into drug abuse.

On child marriage, he emphasized that it is an offense to marry a child under 18 years and called on Ghanaians to frown on the practice.

“It’s an act of wickedness for any father or mother to sit idle and allow a child below 18 to be forced into marriage based on whatever reason, it’s not right” he said.

Beatrice’s courage in sharing her concerns with the Minister is an inspiration to us all. We look forward to seeing the impact of this meeting on the lives of girls in Ghana.
