African Games 2023: Ghana’s cycling champion blames Federation due to bike failure [video]

Ghana’s cycling champion, Michael Naaba, withdrew from the race competition citing a faulty bicycle.

According to him, the Sports Ministry and the Ghana Cycling Federation`s failed to supply adequate equipment, forcing him to use his own training bike.

Naaba said shortly after taking off, the tube connected to his bike exploded. However, due to that unexpected situation he was pulled out of the race.

Sharing the sad moment, he said that he was fully prepared for the competition but due to the lack of adequate equipment he failed to compete in the race.

Michael Naaba in the year 2023 emerged as the winner of National Cycling Champion held at Ho.

The 13th African Games are being held in Accra, Cape Coast and Kumasi.

This year, 52 countries are competing, making it an actual pan-African sporting event.

Some 5,000 athletes will battle it out to win medals and break records in 30 disciplines, an increase from the 2019 African Games, which offered 26 sports. The 2015 Games had 22 disciplines.
