Government to promote mobile payment interoperability in Ghana and Africa

Ghana’s first female Vice President of Ghana, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has emphasized the importance of mobile payment interoperability in Ghana, highlighting its potential to ease trade and financial inclusion.

She envisioned a future where this technology is scaled across the continent, enabling seamless transactions between businesses and consumers in different countries.

“Imagine if this technology were scale across the continent to enable seemless transactions between businesses and consumers in different countries.”

She was speaking at the open ceremony of the 2025 Africa Prosperity dialogue in Accra.

Opoku-Agyemang stressed the need for collective investment in robust digital infrastructure to expedite the single market agenda. This, she believes, will drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and connect people and markets.

To expedite the single market agenda, we mustvinvest collectively and building robust digital infrastructure beside connecting people and markets, this will also drive innovation and entrepreneurship.” 

She urged leaders to champion and expand this innovative technology, emphasizing that the success of the citizen market depends on collective will and decisive action.

The Vice President also entreated for accelerated progress to ensure Africa realizes its gains for current and future generations.

She concluded by encouraging collaboration, networking, and idea-sharing to move closer to a single Africa market.

“As we delibrate on this issue, I call on all of us as leaders to embrace and champion and expand this innovative”.

As Ghana’s first female Vice President, Opoku-Agyemang has been a trailblazer in Ghanaian politics. Her commitment to education, innovation, and economic development has been evident throughout her career, including her tenure as Minister for Education from 2013 to 2017.
