Samuel Awuku, also known as Sammi Awuku, has officially resigned as the Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), to the President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama effective January 13, 2025.
His resignation comes after being elected as the Member of Parliament for Akwapim North and being sworn in to represent his constituents.
Awuku’s decision to resign is to focus on his new responsibility as a Member of Parliament. He was appointed as the Director General of the NLA in August 2021 by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and received confirmation from the Public Services Commission in July 2022.
In his resignation letter, Awuku requested that the President appoint a replacement to facilitate a smooth transition and handover of responsibilities. His letter was copied to various high-ranking officials, including the Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and the Minister of Finance designate.

The National Lottery Authority, where Awuku served, is a public service institution that aims to raise revenue for national development and provide employment opportunities.
Established in 1958, the NLA has evolved into an autonomous public service institution with a legal monopoly over lottery operations in Ghana .
