A devastating fire swept through the Techiman Central Market in the Bono East Region, destroying hundreds of shops and leaving traders in distress.

According to eyewitnesses, the lack of firefighting equipment was a major issue, with one trader expressing frustration that the entire metropolitan area of Techiman only has one fire tender.

The fire, which began around 9:15 PM on Sunday, January 12, 2025, destroyed hundreds of shops, leaving traders devastated. One trader lamented that he had taken a loan from a bank to invest in his business, only to lose everything in the fire.

Despite the challenges, the Bono East Regional Fire Commander, ACO III Naomi Ofori Adubea Sarpong, reported that six fire tenders were deployed to manage the situation, including those from nearby towns Nkoranza, Kintampo, and Wenchi.

Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the fire. This incident is the latest in a series of market fires in Ghana, including the recent Kantamanto Market fire in Accra on January 2, 2025.
