The National Elections Security Taskforce (NESTF), under the chairmanship Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare have held a meeting with the leadership of the various political parties at the Police Headquarters, Accra.
The meeting helped to discuss security towards this year’s general elections and related matters.
The meeting was aimed at ensuring a peaceful 2024 general election.
At the meeting, the IGP Dampare assured political parties of fairness in the delivery of security and therefore asked for their collaboration.

“We assure you of our dedication to creating a secure environment for the elections. Our actions will be impartial and guided by the law and anyone who violates these laws will be made to face the law” the IGP said.
The IGP assured them of police professionalism.

Commending the political parties for their efforts to ensure peaceful campaigns, the IGP emphasized the importance of maintaining this trend.
The political party representatives took turns to share their expectations with the Police hierarchy.
The parties in separate statements emphasized the need for police officers to conduct themselves in a way that will cause the public to repose confidence in them.

He assured the leaders that the security arrangements for election day are robust, with adequate measures in place to prevent any disturbances.
Edward Omane Boamah, Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed satisfaction with the Ghana Police Service’s preparing for the upcoming 2024 general elections.

“The very fruitful meeting points to the fact that we will yearn for peaceful, transparent, free and fair elections” he stated.
Mr Boamah praised the police’s successful security operations and confidence in their ability to replicate this success nationwide.
Justin Frimpong Kodua, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), speaking with the media after a meeting with the police and political parties, pledged the party’s continued commitment to peaceful elections, while expressing concerns over potential violence and misinformation.
